TRANSCRIPT: "It's a dramatic comeback for romance and excitement of Sergeant Preston and King of the Royal Mounted and what was once regarded as the quaint innocence of the Eskimo. The legendary dog team is making a comeback over the snow-mobile.

"The here of this turnaround is the scrappy, independent, temperamental and yet, incredibly loyal husky. He provide the most reliable transportation system anywhere. These tenacious companions will never let you down, they never run out of gas, they never freeze up, they never falter in blizzards or deep snow. And you can run them to the horizon. Good teams of six gods can cover sixty miles a day for months. They'll stick with you till their last breath and will gladly provide both body and psychological warmth. The iron bead between a northerner and his dogs puts the snowmobile to shame."

Background: The petrol-driven snowmobile-a kind of motorised snow sled-was heralded as a great breakthrough in communications for those living in Arctic conditions when it was introduced three decades ago.

The snowmobile quickly took over from the traditional dog teams of the Eskimos living in the snow-bound areas of Canada's Northwest Territories.

But the same Eskimos have since discovered that their old, friendly and loyal dog teams are far more reliable than their snarling, temperamental and costly modern counterparts.

So, near Yellowknife-just below the Arctic Circle in Canada's frozen North-teams of huskies are back. They give no trouble in starting, never run out of expensive petrol and will travel happily for up to 60 miles (96 kilometres) a day for months on end.
