Background: A widow son is dying in a Victorian country hospital reached his bedside today after being flown especially from Scotland. She is Mrs. Mary Shore of Glasgow, whose son William is dying of cancer in the Traralgon and District Hospital. Mrs. Shore arrived in Melbourne earlier today after leaving Glasgow early yesterday. She came as an assisted migrant and immigration proceedings were rushed through to get her to Australia before her son died. Mrs. Shore's daughter, Mrs. Reid, now living at Glen Waverley, was as at the airport to meet her.
Looking tired and pale after her long journey, Mrs. Shore said he was glad to be in Australia, but regretted that it was under such tragic circumstances. Mrs. Reid took her mother to have a cup of tea before accompanying her on the last party of her journey, who was in a light plane. provided by the Oatrobe Valley Aero Club. Mrs. Shore's son has stomach cancer, and only six weeks ago her husband died in Glasgow of a similar complaint. She was at her son's bedside less than 48 hours after leaving Glasgow.
