President Felix Houphouet-Boigny opened a new industrial complex outside Abidjan on Saturday (5 January). Situated on the Vridi industrial estate, the new complex is part of the Blohorn Group's plant investment in the Ivory Coast.
The Vridi complex contains factories for refining palm oil, producing a fluid edible oil for export, along with other by-products. The complex began production three years ago, in 1971. Saturday's ceremony marked the completion of the plant. With a total production capacity of 150,000 tons, 70,000 tons of refined oil and 50,000 tons of soap are being produced annually.
Next year the Blohorn Group will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in the Ivory Coast. Saturday's ceremony was attended by Mr. Andre Blohorn, the son of the company's founder, who is the present Chairman of the group.
