    ABOUT 2,000 BANNER-WAVING STUDENTS MARCHED THROUGH WEST BERLIN YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) TO MARK THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF KARL LIEBKNECHT AND ROSA LUXEMBURG, WHO WERE MURDERED AFTER LEADING AN ABORTIVE COMMUNIST REVOLT. THE DEMONSTRATORS HAULED DOWN AND BURNED THE BRITISH AND FRENCH FLAGS WHICH WERE FLYING OVER A HOTEL. AFTER THE HOTEL MANAGEMENT HAD HASTILY REMOVED AN AMERICAN FLAG TO PREVENT ITS DESTRUCTION.

    THE DEMONSTRATORS FIRST MARCHED TO THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND THREW RED PAINT, STONES AND FIREWORKS AT THE BUILDING. THE DEMONSTRATORS WENT TO THE SITE OF THE FORMER HO EL EDEN AND ON THE GRASS LAID A "FOUNDATION STONE" WHICH READ. "FOUNDATION STONE FOR THE LUXEMBURG-LIEBKNECHT MEMORIAL". SOME OF THE DEMONSTRATORS ALSO WENT TO THE KA-DE-WE, ONE OF THE LARGEST STORES IN WEST BERLIN AND SMASHED ABOUT 20 WINDOWS.

    THE WEST GERMAN CHANCELLOR, KURT GEORG KIESINGER, HAS ATTACKED STUDENT DEMONSTRATORS AS "DESTROYERS AND COLD-BLOODED REVOLUTIONARIES" AND URGED TOUGHER MEASURES TO CURB UNREST IN UNIVERSITY TOWNS. THE CHANCELLOR WARNED THAT THE CONSEQUENCES OF STUDENT UNREST COULD BE SIMILAR TO THOSE IN FRANCE LAST YEAR, "WE WANT TO PROTECT OUR PEOPLE FROM SUCH AN EXPERIENCE. OUR PEOPLE EXPECT US TO MAINTAIN PEACE, ORDER AND THE RULE OF LAW", HE DECLARED.
