Background: Visnews had a sneak preview of the plans that are afoot in the Vigevano workshops of world famous shoe designer Gildo Comelli to step up the Italian shoe invasion of Europe, Dec. 11. Italian-style shoes are the vogue, with pointed toes, stiletto heels and strange names. Forty-seven per cent of the sales of a leading British shoe retailer are "Italian" style.
Shoes, like dresses, are classified in 'lines'. This pair of emerald green shoes are modeled on the Mandolin Line. A pair in Delfion -- a type of Nylon -- have been labelled Empire Line.
There seems no end to the materials that Comelli uses. There are shoes with lobster red pom-poms, others made of kid leather, lizard skin and white patent leather.
