July 27 was a day of mealtime talks at Geneva. Russia's Gromyko lunched with Selwyn Lloyd at the British Foreign Minister's villa, and later all four Foreign Ministers gathered there for a "working tea".
Good progress was reported at the latter meeting in the talks on Selwyn Lloyd's six points for a Berlin settlement, but there were differences of opinion between East and West over the future size of Western forces in Berlin. The six points outlined by Selwyn Lloyd recently were: force levels in Berlin, armaments of forces in Berlin, propaganda and similar activities in Berlin, the duration of any agreement on Berlin, access to West Berlin, and, the position at the and of the agreement.
After the "working tea" a Western spokesman said it had been agreed there should be further East-West contacts on July 29. Meanwhile the chances of a summit conference being held remain uncertain.
