    WITHIN A FEW HOURS OF THE BOMBING OF A NEGRO'S HOME IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, YESTERDAY (THURSDAY), HUNDREDS OF NEGROES MOVED INTO THE AREA AND STARTED TO RIOT.DEMONSTRATORS FILLED A THREE-BLOCK AREA, HURLING BRICKS AND STONES AT PASSING CARS.POLICE WARNED DEMONSTRATORS TO MOVE ON, AND WHEN THEY FAILED TO DO SO, WARNING SHOTS WERE FIRED OVER THEIR HEADS.A NEGRO, JOHN COLEY AGED 20, DIED FROM 3 BULLETS IN THE HEAD AND BODY.

    THE BOMBING AT THE HOME OF A NEGRO ATTORNEY, ARTHUR SHORES, DUG A HOLE IN THE LAWN AND SHATTERED THE WINDOWS.THE HOUSE IS STILL UNDER REPAIR FROM A WORSE EXPLOSION LESS THAN THREE WEEKS AGO.NO-ONE WAS INJURED.

    BIRMINGHAM WAS IN STATE OF TENSION THROUGHOUT WEDNESDAY.THREE DESEGREGATED PUBLIC SCHOOLS - FORMERLY ALL-WHITE -- WERE SCHEDULED TO ADMIT NEGRO STUDENTS FOR THE FIRST TIME ON THURSDAY.BUT GOVERNOR WALLACE ANNOUNCED THE CLOSING OF THE SCHOOLS, AND BROUGHT IN STATE POLICE TO SURROUND THEM AND ENFORCE CLOSURE.

    AS STUDENTS WERE TURNED AWAY, NEGRO LEADERS FILED A PETITION IN THE FEDERAL COURT SEEKING THE SCHOOLS' RE-OPENING.
