    More than 4,000 Buddhists marched on the United States Embassy in New Delhi on Wednesday (September 9) to protest over the American decision to build a military base near the World Peace Memorial in Nagasaki.

    Led by several members of Parliament belonging to Mrs. Ghandhi's Ruling Congress Party, the demonstrators gathered outside the Embassy carrying placards of protest and shouting anti-American slogans. A strong contingent of Delhi police were employed to control the crowd, but the demonstration was peaceful.

    A memorandum expressing the demands of the Buddists was submitted to the Embassy during the Demonstration.

    Several women joined in the protest as well as Buddhist monks in their saffron robes.
