  • Description

Mario D'Agata, the deaf mute who overcame his handicaps to become Italian and European boxing champion, drew a capacity crowd in Milan when he met Frenchman Michel Lamora, tonight. Although no longer a title-holder, D'Agata remains a firm favourite with the crowds, though on this occasion his supporters did not have much opportunity to see him in action. The fight ended in the fourth round. The referee stopped the contest in favour of the Italian when the Frenchman's eye was badly gashed. It was a disappointing end to a fight which had promised much -- D'Agata looked the fitter and more aggressive of the two and showed enough class to suggest that he is far from a 'has-been' in international boxing.
