    UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF STATE WILLIAM ROGERS HAD LENGTHY TALKS WITH PRESIDENT JOSEPH MOBUTU DURING A 48-HOUR VISIT TO CONGO-KINSHASA. IT WAS HIS SIXTH STOP OF A TEN-NATION AFRICAN TOUR.

    MR. ROGERS WAS WELCOMED ON HIS ARRIVAL AT KINSHASA AIRPORT ON MONDAY NIGHT (FEBRUARY 16TH) BY FOREIGN MINISTER CYRILLE ADOULA.

    THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE MET PRESIDENT JOSEPH MOBUTU ABOARD THE PRESIDENTIAL YACHT FOR A CRUISE ON THE CONGO RIVER. THE TWO MEN TALKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS, MAINLY ON U.S. SUPPORT TO THE CONGOLESE AID PROGRAMME.

    DURING THE RIVER CRUISE, MR. ROGERS EXTENDED PRESIDENT MOBUTU AN INVITATION TO PAY AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE UNITED STATES BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR, THE DATE OF WHICH WILL BE AGREED ON THROUGH DIPLOMATIC CHANNELS.

    BEFORE LEAVING KINSHASA, MR. ROGERS PRESIDED OVER A CONFERENCE OF 40 U.S. HEADS OF MISSION IN AFRICA.
