  • Description

A mother of three from Hamilton, Ontario, who recently separated from her husband, found herself Canada's newest dollar millionaire this week when she won first prize in the Canadian Olympic Lottery.

Until recently, most forms of gambling were forbidden in Canada. Now the lottery is raking in huge sums top help finance the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Eight of the lotteries are planned and the final profit for the Olympic Organising Committee is expected to be about 100 million dollars towards the 310 million dollar cost of the games.

When the draw was made on Tuesday (19 November), the winner was Mrs. Audrey Robb from Hamilton. She started as if she didn't intend life as a millionaire to change anything -- by going into work the following morning.

Coverage includes the announcement of the winner at Tuesday night's draw and an interview with Mrs. Robb. These are transcribed overpage, together with a linking commentary by CBC reporter Wendy Howard. An on-camera introduction is provided.

SYNOPSIS: Hundreds of thousands of Canadians watched television with bated breath this week to find out which of them had become an instant dollar millionaire. They were watching the draw for one of eight lotteries to finance the 1976 Montreal Olympics. First prize -- one million dollars. A report on the draw ... and the winner.
