The offices of Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia attorney Anthony C. Bowles were ransacked by raiders during the weekend Oct 22-23. They left a threatening note signed by the Rhodesian Republican Army warning him "not to act for the National Democratic Party against Rhodesian interests".
Bowles has been acting as instructing solicitor to council defending National Democratic Party leaders in recent court cases in Salisbury, Sinoia and Inkomo.
On Oct 25, our cameraman found the initials "RRA" (for Rhodesian Republic Army) on the back of road signs in the district.
One district said he had seen the initials painted on almost every traffic sign between Salisbury and Sinoia.
In Salisbury, newspapers tell of the raid on Bowles' office. Nothing appears to have been taken and police have stepped up their efforts to track down the mysterious RRA, said one report.
Newspaper correspondents have also received threatening telephone calls from the RRA. They were told to be careful what they wrote- or expert "social calls" from the RRA.
It had been described as an extreme "back to the wall" white Rhodesia movement with well-known Rhodesian personalities behind it.
