    President Jomo Kenyatta on Friday (16 July) laid the foundation stone of a 17-floor building to house the headquarters of the government corporation. In a speech at the ceremony President Kenyatta, said that the building, to be Nairobi's third 17-storey skyscraper, will cost over 1 million Kenyan pounds. (about 1,100,000 sterling).

    SYNOPSIS: One more skyscraper is to contribute to the rising skyline of Nairobi, and more are coming.

    The city of Nairobi is booming, at least in building construction. There are now two 17-storey buildings - the Hilton hotel and International Life House, and yet another 25-storey building is planned to house the Kenya African National Union, Kenya's ruling party. And work is now beginning on another building - last Friday President Jomo Kenyatta laid the foundation stone.

    This building is to house the headquarters of the government corporation, which grants loans to encourage African business activity and is also involved in industrial and mining projects. The building, which will include underground car parks, a cinema, restaurant, bank and ships, will cost over one million Kenyan pounds.
