  • Description

French Foreign Minister Jean Sauvagnargues arrived in Amman, on Monday night (21 October) for a twenty-four hour visit to Jordan for talks with Jordanian leaders.

    M. Sauvagnargues, who has just completed a series of talks with Lebanese leaders and also an historic meeting with Palestine Liberation Organisation leader Yasser Arafat, met first with Jordan's Acting Foreign Minister Mr. Adnand Abu Odeh and also with the Acting Prime Minister, Mr. Sobhi Amin Amr.

    M. Sauvagnargues said the Palestine question was one of the subjects which attracted particular attention from the French President, the French Government, and the French people.

He told the Jordanian Government that French shares Jordan's view that Israel should withdraw from all occupied Arab land, including the west bank of the River Jordan.

    M. Sauvagnargues also said France supported the Palestinian Arabs' right to self-determination, as well as Israel's right to exist in secure and recognised borders.
