    Background: Competitors from five countries took part in the Balkan Cross Country race meeting in Athens. The meeting ins held every year, country by country.

    The games, the twelfth in the series, were contested by men and women from Greece, Rumania, Turkey, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria. They were watched by senior Government officials and members of the Diplomatic Corps.

    The 10,000 metres for men was won by Vamos, of Rumania; the 4,000 metres for men by Djordevic of Yugoslavia; the 2,000 metres for women by Nikolic of Yugoslavia; and the 1,000 metres for girls by I. Sarcasi, of Rumania.
