TRANSCRIPT: AMUNDSON: "Jeff Burroughs' two-run double was the big hit in a big first innings for the Rangers. Burroughs' drive off the Whalen right drove in Cesar Taber and Dave Bolts, who had singled off the Yankees starter Pat Dobson. Burroughs -- last year's most valuable player -- is fighting a long slumps.

Note so with Mike Hargrove whose single knocked in Burroughs and it was three-nothing. Hargrove won Rooky of the Year honours in 1974 and is having an even better second year, ranking right behind Rod Carew in the baiting race.

Tober doubled home a run in the second....but Dobson was sent to the showers. The Rangers coasted in from there ending a four-game losing streak. The Yankees fell five-and-a-half games behind Boston in the American League heat. Texas is fifteen-and-a-half back in the West. Jenkins allowed only three singles in winning his eleventh game against Ken Lawson. Both Yankees run were unearned, Jenkins had shut out New York on four hits on his last outing against them. So after a shaky first half of the year, Jankins could be on his way to an eight-twenty victory season.

    This is Charles Amundson reporting."

Background: The fans who crowded the baseball stadium in Arlington, Texas, on friday (18 July) saw their home team, Texas Rangers, thrash visiting New York Yankees seven-two.

A magnificent three-hitter from Rangare' Ferguson jenkina sealed the Taxas team's victory, after Mike Hargrove and Cesar Tober had given the Rangers a good start.

The Yankees played disappointingly. Both their runs were unearned. The defeat punts them five-and-a-half games behind Boston in the American League division.

Taxas is already fifteen-and-a-half games behind the leaders in the West division.
