Background: The International Air Transport Association held an extraordinary meeting in Beirut (Lebanon) on Tuesday (14 August) to discuss last Friday's (10 August) abduction by Israeli jets of a Lebanese airliner ever Beirut.

At the meeting, the Arab Air Carriers Association called on the Association (IATA) to expel Israel, and also to find all possible measures to prevent anything like it happening again.

The secretary-general of the Organisation (AACO), Mr. Salim Salam, urged that IATA deplore the operations of Israel, and seek measures by all parties concerned to prevent a recurrence of what it called 'such criminal acts'.

The association also called on Arab directors of civil aviation to support any draft resolution providing for what it called 'the most severe sanctions against Israel'.
