Background: One of England's most famous football Clubs, Arsenal of London, celebrated a little piece of soccer history at Highbury Stadium, London, today (Saturday). The red and white shirted "Gunners " only managed a goal-less draw in their match with Newcastle United. But they also celebrated their 50th successive year in the English League first division.
Newcastle United shared in the history making for it was they in August 1919 -- who were Arsenal's first opponents in division one. Arsenal share the distinction with Manchester United of being the only teams to be continually in the first division since World War II.
But Arsenal's fans had little to cheer about in today's match at Highbury. Arsenal it difficult to get into their stride and there was such uncertainty in mid-field. During the second half, Arsenal dominated much of the play but were unable to score. Still they gained one competition point from their draw and so moved up into fourth place in the first Division Competition Table.
