Klaus Augenthaler put Bayern into the lead in the 31st minute, when he scored from 30 metres (yards), but Schalke's Bernard Dietz equalised in the 79th minute, scoring from close range. A crowd of 68,000 attended the match. It was the first draw for Bayern Munich this season, coming after eight victories and one defeat.
