Background: Thirty-five thousand spectators - including Prime Minister Debre - were at the Stade Colombes, Paris, May 7, to watch the French soccer Cup Final between teams from Sedan and Nimes.

Both teams were very fast, and supporters of both sides had many occasions to applaud their champions, but an indication of the final result came in the sixteenth minute when a brilliant run down the right wing resulted in a pass to inside-left Fulgenzy, who gave the Nimes goalkeeper, Rozak, no chance with his first time shot, and Sedan were one goal ahead. The score remained at 1-0 until half-time.

The ball swung from end to end in the second half, and both goalkeepers wee severely tested. But twenty minutes from the final whistle, a mix-up between Sedan's right-wing and Nimes' left-back gave an opportunity to outside-left Breny, who brought the score to two-nil for the team from northern France. Seven minutes later they went further ahead with a third goal by Salem, the centre-forward. In the 86th minute, Garnier, Nimes' outside-right, took a corner from which Constantino, the inside-right scored Nimes' one and only goal. The final result was a three-one win for Sedan.
