  • Description

Wedding, or marriage ceremonies, are sometimes held in some pretty strange places, but in South Africa they have the prize for eccentricity -- with a wedding in a circus ring. It no doubt ranks as the 'high society' wedding of the year, since the bride and groom were both trapeze artists. The ceremony was held in the main circus tent in the showgrounds at Pretoria. The best man was a midget, and even when the couple were keeling down, he was still a little on the short side.

SYNOPSIS: After they had taken the plunge, the daring new double act, Mr. and Mrs. Schoultz, was showered in confetti by circus friends and fellow performers.

Before leaving for what must have been a swinging honeymoon, the couple and their guests were entertained by a symbolic Chinese wedding dance -- performed by members of a Chinese circus who are touring with them.

With their heady romance off to a flying start, the happy couple were clearly walking on air. But they will have to try harder than most to stay even-tempered. As one well-wisher put it: "The results of a row in mid-performance would probably be disastrous."
