  • Description

Carrying anti-French banners and Algerian Nationalist flags, thousands of Moslem students from Beirut's Makassed School paraded through the Lebanese capital's streets Dec 15 in a demonstration of support for Algerian independence demands.

Banners written in Arabic and English read; "French Go From Algeria", and "Algeria is for Algerian". Shouting their protests against the deaths of more than one hundred Moslem demonstrators in recent Algerian rioting, the students marched to the Government building, where they were addressed by Information Minister Fouad Ghosn.

The Minister said the Lebanese Government was doing all it could to bring about the independence of Algeria from French rule.
