    President Seyui Kountche of Niger flew to N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, on Tuesday (3 December), for a 24 hour visit during which he was to have talks with Government leaders on the current situation in southern Africa. He was greeted at N'Djamena Airport by President N'Garta Tombalbaye, members of the Government, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

    President Kountche returned home the next day, after signing a joint communique on the talks. He said that the talks had been concerned with Niger's position on the question of the recent discussions between South Africa and African heads of state. The recent events in Ethiopia had also been discussed.

    Speaking at a news conference in N'Djamena before he left, president Kountche condemned the recently reported contacts between South African and black African heads of state. He said his country would fight against apartheid, and fight for the liberation of African territories still under colonial domination.

    He also announced that the frontier authorities of Niger and Chad would in future meat periodically. This would assist the aim of the two governments to reinforce cooperation on matters of security, information, transport and telecommunications.
