    For the first time in Jordan, 16 policewomen from a new school in Amman graduated on Thursday (June 8). The school is under the patronage of Prince Hassan, and he was there to see the first graduation parade and ceremonies.

    This first group of women graduates spend four months training in weapons'drill, self-defence and in studying their civil duties. They showed off some of their new skills in a march-past and a display of self-defence techniques.

    SYNOPSIS: Prince Hassan, patron of a new school for Jordanian women police cadets in Amman, saw the first results of the training programme on Thursday.

    Princess Tharwat was also there to see the parade of the first batch of sixteen women graduates from the school. Marching and drilling had played an important part in their intensive four-month course at the school.

    With Prince Hassan was Prime Minister Ahmad El-Lawzi and the Minister of the Interior Ibrahim El-Habsshneh, as well as a number of other high-ranking officers, and officials.

    Courses in self-defence were also included in the instruction of this first group of women police. And they have studied the use of firearms, general police duties, investigation procedures and constitutional rights.

    During these graduation ceremonies, the policewomen were to take their legal oath prior to taking up their official duties with the police force. Prince Hassan and the Ministers left well satisfied with the work of Jordan's new school for policewomen.
