  • Description

MICHEL JAZY, FRANCE'S STAR MIDDLE DISTANCE RUNNER, SET A WORLD INDOOR RECORD FOR THE 2,000 METRES AT LYONS ON SATURDAY.

HIS TIME OF 5 MINUTES 4.4 SECONDS WAS 7.8 SECONDS FASTER THAN THE OLD RECORD SET UP BY BRITISH RUNNER JOHN WHETTON AT A MEETING IN LONDON LAST APRIL.

THE DAY BEFORE, JAZY HAD SLASHED TWO SECONDS OFF THE BEST EUROPEAN TIME FOR 1,500 METRES ON AN INDOOR TRACK AT A MEETING IN PARIS. HE CLOCKED 3 MINUTES 42.6 SECONDS, BEATING THE RECORD ESTABLISHED BY SIEGFRIED HERRMANN OF EAST GERMANY IN BERLIN IN 1960.

TODAY (SUNDAY), JAZY SCORED HIS THIRD BIG SUCCESS WHEN HE WON THE INTERNATIONAL CROSS-COUNTRY RACE OVER AN EIGHT KILOMETRE COURSE AT LES MUREAUX NEAR PARIS.
