  • Description

Repeating his tough line on the expulsion of British passport-holding Asians from Uganda, President Idi Amin told lunch meeting of diplomats on Wednesday (August 9) that the Asian community had refused to integrate with ugandan Africans and only wished to exploit the nation's economy.

President Amin, who has said that all British Asians would have to be out of the country within three months, apparently tightened his tough line by saying that all Indian, Pakistani and Bangladesh nations in Uganda would have to leave as well.

The lunch meeting, attended by British High commissioner Mr. Richard Slater, the Indian High Commissioner and the Pakistan Ambassador, began in a jovial atmosphere with laughs and jokes. But after lunch, in a prepared speech, President Amin destroyed hopes of a compromise by repeating his order.
