    IT BEGINS WITH THE RETURN OF M.BOURGUIBA FROM EXILE ON JUNE 1ST, 1955, AND THEN SHOWS THE SIGNING OF THE INDEPENDENCE AGREEMENT IN PARIS. THE NEXT SECTION DEALS WITH CONSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENTS, INCLUDING THE GENERAL ELECTION OF 1956 AND SWEARING IN OF PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA.

    EVENTS BEARING ON TUNISIA'S RELATIONS WITH FRANCE DURING THE EARLY YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE INCLUDE THE WRECKED VILLAGE OF SAKIET, THE VISIT OF PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA TO PRESIDENT DE GAULLE IN 1961 AND THE BATTLE OF BIZERTA IN THE SAME YEAR.
