Background: INTRODUCTION: A delegation from the Kuwaiti Arab Economic Development Fund has been visiting Mauritania, led by the Fund's Director-General, Mr. Abdellatif Al Hamad.
SYNOPSIS: Mr. Hamad and his party arrived at Nouakchott airport on Saturday (12 February) and were greeted by Monsieur Ahmed Ould Daddah, governor of the Mauritanian Central bank. Speaking to newsmen at the airport, Mr. Hamad said that his visit was taking place within the framework of Kuwaiti-Mauritanian co-operation and that talks would be held with banking officials with a view to strengthening co-operative activities. Mr. Hamad also said how pleased he was to visit the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
Later the Kuwaiti delegation was driven into the Mauritanian capital, where Mr. Hamad had talks with Head of State Moktar Ould Daddah.
Discussions during the Kuwaiti delegation's visit covered the joint financing of several important projects, in particular two involving the development and maintenance of a road system in Mauritania. The Kuwaiti Arab Development Fund gives large-scale aid to developing countries -- with special emphasis on the poorest Arab, African and Asian nations.
