Background: The Ministerial Committee of the Organization for European Economic Co-operation met under the chairmanship of the British Minister, Mr. Maudling, in Paris on October 23, for further discussions on the European Free Trade areas.
So far French opposition has retarded progress. For nine months the French delegates have attempted to bring the various committee in line with its own aims. Documents and counter-documents have been issued, progress has been reported but the rock of French resistance has stood almost immovable.
The Paris talks, it is hoped, will contribute real progress to the negotiations and bring nearer the inception of a Free Trade area in Europe.
