Background: President Nixon yesterday welcomed Irish Prime Minister John Lynch to the White House with 30 minutes of colourful ceremony under sunny blue skies. After the ceremony, the visiting leader held two hours of discussions with the President in which the Northern Ireland situation was discussed. Mr. Lynch told a news conference afterwards that the two men had agreed that the British Government was determined to implement reforms in Northern Ireland.
The President and Mr. Lynch exchanged speeches before starting the talks.
Later President Nixon announced the engagement of his daughter Tricia to Harvard Law student Eddie Cox.
