Lone Scottish, yachtsman, Chay Blyth, sailing round the world was sighted of the North Otage coast in New Zealand at the weekend. Earlier, fears were held for his safety. No word had been heard for days.
Blyth was interviewed by a news team from New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation as he drifted southward.
Blyth said he had been becalmed of the New Zealand coast and had been drifting for days.
His last reported position was seven miles out off Cape Saunders, on the Otago peninsula.
The NZBC team found him 30 miles off the coast, heading south and again under sail.
He said his next landfall would probably be the coast of Tasmania.
Blyth is sailing round the globe from east to west -- the opposite direction to Sir Francis Chichester. He reported that his health was good and the yacht was shipshape.
