Arnaldo Miniati has been his art work exhibited in France, Morocco, the United States and several galleries in Italy, his home country. But it is the Arabic Arts and the Holy Land of the Middle East that have always fascinated the 63-year-old painter.
Thus, when he received a commission to cover the history of mankind, he found it an ideal opportunity to travel to Jordan and other Arab States. At the weekend, he staged an exhibition of his work in Amman.
During his stay in Jordan, he is attempting to capture the spirit and culture of the country in sketches. Later, his impressions will comprise six huge works representing human history since its early beginnings.
The sketches and paintings on display include work done by Mr. Miniati in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
SYNOPSIS: Amman's intercontinental Hotel was the scene of an unusual exhibit at the weekend. Seventeen paintings and more than two dozen sketches wore on view, in a kind of one-man preview. The work was all done in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
The artist responsible is sixty-three-year-old Arnaldo Miniati, from Italy. Having had his work exhibited in several world capitals, his latest work is the result of a commission from Filotechnica, an Italian industrial institution.
The Arabic Arts and the Holy Land of the Middle East have always fascinated Mr Miniati. Asked to do a series of paintings covering the history of man, he found it an ideal opportunity to go to Jordan and other Arab states. There, he has tried to capture the culture and spirit of the area in sketches and paintings. These will later be transposed into six huge works representing human history. Mr. Miniati expects to complete the series in 1975.
