    THE 17TH MEETING OF THE COLOMBO PLAN CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE, WITH 24 NATIONS TAKING PART, IS ENDING IN KARACHI, PAKISTAN, TODAY (THURSDAY) AFTER FOUR DAYS OF TALKS. FINAL DISCUSSIONS INCLUDE A 300-PAGE REPORT ON ECONOMIC CONDITIONS IN SOUTH AND SOUTH EAST ASIA - THE COLOMBO PLAN REGION.

    THE COLOMBO PLAN IS CONCERNED WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEMBER COUNTRIES IN SOUTH AND SOUTH EAST ASIA, WITH THE DEVELOPED COUNTRIES SUCH AS JAPAN, AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND, PROVIDING AID FOR THE UNDER-DEVELOPED COUNTRIES. THE UNITED STATES, BRITAIN AND CANADA ARE ALSO REPRESENTED AT COLOMBO PLAN MEETING AS DONOR COUNTRIES.

    A WARNING TO THE CONFERENCE WAS GIVEN ON TUESDAY BY ITS CHAIRMAN, MR. M. AHMAD, OF PAKISTAN, WHO SAID THE GAP BETWEEN RICH AND POOR NATIONS WAS STILL WIDENING AND THAT IMMEDIATE ACTION WAS NEEDED TO MEET DEVELOPMENT PROBLEMS BEFORE IT WAS TOO LATE. AN AMERICAN REPRESENTATIVE, MR. M. POATS, SAID THAT FOOD WAS STILL NOT BEING PRODUCED FAST ENOUGH BY DEVELOPING COUNTRIES TO MEET THEIR INCREASING NEEDS.
