Background: US Secretary of Commerce Elliot Richardson visited today in Seoul for seventh US-Korea commerce minister's meeting on May 22-25. He was welcomed by Yie Joon Chang, South Korean Minister of Commerce and Industry at airport. The US-Korea ministerial meeting, last held in Washington DC, in June 1974, will talk on closer economic ties and opportunities for expanding trade, economic cooperation and investment.
Secretary Richardson will also meet President Park Chung Hee.
On his return, Mr. Richardson will visit Tokyo from May 25 - 28 and meet Prime Minister Miki.
During the seven-day visit to the Republic of Korea and Japan, Secretary Richardson is expected to discuss not only such subjects as energy, science and technology, but also the economic and trade issues affecting the United States and its two Far Eastern partners.
