TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 5: SHAGARI: "I want to congratulate and indeed the members and supporters of our party through out Nigeria. The price and privilege has been rightly ours to have formed and belong to the one political party which has obtained the unmistakable mandate of the people of this country to administer the first post-military government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I, more than anybody else, appreciate and acknowledge our selfless contributions and for this I remain indebted to you all. Today through the votes of the people of Nigeria, secure through your unquantifiable service, I am the first Executive President of Nigeria. Sincerely, and from the bottom of my heart, I thank all the members of the National Party of Nigeria and also the entire Nigerian electorate who have reposed confidence in me and in our great party. During our first sixty-one days in government I have commissioned a programme intended to minimise the effect of some of the critical constrains facing food production in Nigeria. The greater responsibility and the confidence placed on us shall be fully justified. I thank you and wish you successful deliberations."
