    A FIVE-MAN DELEGATION OF THE GHANA TUC HAS BEEN IN LAGOS HAVING TALKS WITH NIGERIAN TRADE UNION LEADERS. THE VISITING DELEGATION WAS LED BY MR. BENJAMIN BENTUM, THE NEW SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE GHANA TUC. MR. BENTUM WAS FORESTRY MINISTER IN DR. NKRUMAH'S GOVERNMENT.

    MR. BENTUM TOLD A NEWS CONFERENCE THAT BEFORE THE COUP IN GHANA, THE TUC WAS PART OF THE THEN RULING CONVENTION PEOPLE'S PARTY. DR. NKRUMAH WAS CONTROLLING BOTH THE PARTY AND THE TUC.

    GHANA'S 5 MILLION WORKERS FULLY SUPPORTED THE COUP, HE SAID. "WHAT THEY SAW OF SOCIALISM GAVE THEM THE GREATEST SHOCK OF THEIR LIVES. IF THERE IS ANY KIND OF SOCIALISM THAT MEANS LIFE MORE ABUNDANT FOR THE WORKERS, GHANAIANS HAVE NEVER SEEN IT, MR. BENTUM TOLD NEWSMEN.

    HE ADDED HE HAD SET UP AN INQUIRY COMMISSION TO PROBE THE ACTIVITIES OF THE LABOUR MOVEMENT WHICH HE DESCRIBED AS COMPLETELY CORRUPT UNDER NKRUMAH.

    A COMMUNIQUE SIGNED BY MR. BENTUM AND BY MR. N. CHUKWURE, GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE NIGERIAN WORKERS' COUNCIL, DESCRIBED THE TALKS AS CORDIAL.

    THE COMMUNIQUE STRESSED THE NEED TO BUILD A FIRM FOUNDATION OF SOLIDARITY AMONG THE WORKERS OF NIGERIA AND GHANA IN PARTICULAR AND THE WORKING CLASS FRATERNITY OF AFRICA IN GENERAL.
