  • Description

15 countries sent delegates to a World Health Organisation training course on cholera which opened in Accra on Monday (Feb 7). Officials stressed the continuing danger of cholera in many parts of the world.

SYNOPSIS: Colonel J.C. Adjeitey welcomed delegates from 15 countries to the World Health Organisation's first Training Course on Cholera to be held inn Ghana, which opened on Monday.

The Ghanaian Commissioner for Health said the course would make people conscious of the continuing threat of cholera and help Ghanaians in particular to combat the disease. Ghana suffered its first cholera outbreak as recently as 1970.

Dr. Amah, the world organisation's representative in Accra, said considerable progress had been made to bring cholera under control. But he regretted that the main weapons against it, good water, waste disposal and hygiene, would be beyond most affected countries for some time.
