    AMONG THE TROOPS CALLED OUT IN DJAKARTA AS A PRECAUTION AGAINST REACTION TO THE DECISION WERE MARINES AND COMMANDOES, WHO PATROLLED THE CITY.

    PRECAUTIONS WERE ALSO TAKEN AT THE DJAKARTA UNIVERSITY, WHERE THERE HAD BEEN MONTHS OF AGITATION AGAINST PRESIDENT SUKARNO. THE UNIVERSITY WAS SEALED OFF AND A PLANNED RALLY BY STUDENTS WAS PREVENTED.

    PRESIDENT SUKARNO WAS INDONESIA'S LEADER FOR 22 YEARS. THE PEOPLE'S CONSULTATIVE CONGRESS ALSO STRIPPED HIM OF HIS TITLE' GREAT LEADER OF THE INDONESIAN REVOLUTION'. THE CONGRESS DEBATED HIS FATE FOR SIX DAYS BEFORE ANNOUNCING HIS DISMISSAL.

    A PARLIAMENTARY MOTION CALLING FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE PRESIDENT'S ALLEGED COMPLICITY IN THE ATTEMPTED COUP OF 1965 HAS BEEN LEFT TO THE DISCRETION OF GENERAL SUHARTO.
