Background: The American film, 'One The Over The Cuckoo's Nest' won five of Hollywood's 'Oscars' on Monday (29 March). The 'Oscars' were awarded by the American Academy of Motion picture Arts and Sciences.

The 'Oscars' won by the film were for---Best Actor - Jack Nicholson, Best Actress - Louise Fletcher, Best Director - Milos Forman, Best Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. It is the first film to win all the top awards since the film, 'It Happened One Night' with Claudette Clabert and Clark Gable, in 1934.

'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is set in one of America's mental hospitals. It deals with the arrival of a rebel patient (Jack Nicholson) in the hospital and his running battle with the tyrannical nurse (Louise Fletcher).

The award for Best Supporting Actor went to George Burns for his role of an old comedian returning to the stage in the film 'The Sunshine Boys'.

Burns, who had not acted in a film since 1939, said at the presentation ceremony, "This proves one thing. If you stay in the business long enough and you get to be old enough, you get to be new again".

The other awards were mainly divided between the shark epic, 'Jaws' (three Oscars) and 'Barry Lyndon', the story of an Irish rogue in 18th Century England (four Oscars).

A special Oscar was awarded to the actress Mary Pickford, who has lived as a virtual recluse for 10 years in her Beverly Hills home.
