    The Australian cricket team, at present on a friendly tour of Ceylon, played a one-day festival match in Colombo to a capacity crowd, April 4.

    Australian captain Ritchie Benaud won the toss and elected to bat. Australia piled up 289 for 8 declared in a little under 200 minutes. Three towering sixes were hit by Booth, O'Neill and McKenzie. O'Neill, though not at his best, executed some powerful shots off the back foot through the covers. He topped the batting with 70 which included 10 fours and one six.

    Booth hit 44 in 32 minutes against O'Neill's 70 in 118 minutes. One of Booth's sixes landed on the pavilion roof. At lunch score Australia were 131 for 3. Soon after they declared at 289 for 8.

    Ceylon were captained by Gunasekara who proved the most successful bowler of the morning with 3 for 39 opening the innings Lifar was out without scoring. A bright partnership for the fourth wicket between Tissera and Gunasekara added 45 runs in 20 minutes. Skipper Gunasekara scored 24 of these in one over off Kline. The first 100 runs were made in 83 minutes. As light faded and drizzle started Ceylon finished with 187 for 7.
