  • Description

An annual meeting of the Customs and Economic Union of Central Africa (UDEAC) was held in Brazzaville, the Congo People's Republic on Friday (17 December).

SYNOPSIS: M. Omar Bongo, the President of Gabon, was the first one to arrive for the meeting, followed by M. Ahmanou Ahidjo, the President of Cameroun. Both were greeted at Brazzaville's airport by Major Marien Ngouabi, the President of the host country.

He is also the President of the UDEAC for this year. The presidency of the Council is by annual alphabetic rotation. The UDEAC, established in December 1974 has four member states: Cameroun, Central African Republic, Congo People's Republic and Gabon. All the countries were represented at the meeting by the heads of states, short of the recently proclaimed Central Africa Empire that sent an envoy. The Council of heads of states meets at least once year to determine the general policy of the Organisation.
