  • Description

RECENT EXCLUSIVE FILM FROM STRIFE-TORN ANGOLA SHOWS THE FAMILY LIFE AND TRAINING OF ONE OF THE REBEL GROUPS. ALTHOUGH IT IS CLAIMED THAT PORTUGUESE TROOPS HAVE BEATEN TERRORISM IN THE NORTHERN AREAS, MANY OF THESE SMALL GROUPS CONTINUE TO PRACTISE DRILL AND MAINTAIN REGULAR PATROLS, FACING CONTINUAL PURSUIT AND CAPTURE.

THE GOVERNOR OF LUANDA RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THAT ARMED FORCES OPERATIONS HAD ENDED, AND GIVEN WAY TO MILITARY POLICE ACTIVITY. THE REBEL ORGANISATION, HE CLAIMED, WAS DISJOINTED, AND ALL THE VILLAGES AND ADMINISTRATIVE POSTS IN THE NORTH HAD BEEN OCCUPIED. MOVEMENT WAS NOW FREE IN THAT PART OF THE COUNTRY AGAIN.

REBELS, HARD PRESSED, ARE ENGAGED IN GUERILLA OPERATIONS CONCENTRATED ON COTTON AND COFFEE PLANTATIONS. HOWEVER LESS THAN 25 PER CENT OF THE COFFEE CROP HAS BEEN LOST BY TERRORIST ACTION. THROUGHOUT THE DISORDERS ANGOLA'S FINANCES HAVE SUFFERED RELATIVELY LITTLE.
