    WITH THIS IN VIEW, SINGAPORE IS NOW ALL SET FOR THE FIRST RAIN-MAKING OPERATIONS TO BEGIN AS SOON AS THE RIGHT CLOUDS ARE SIGHTED.

    A ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE DC-3 AIRCRAFT, FULLY EQUIPPED WITH CLOUD-SEEDING APPARATUS AND MANNED BY A FOUR-MAN CREW, HEADED BY RAIN-MAKER, MR. E. J. SMITH, FLEW INTO SINGAPORE FROM BUTTERWORTH, NORTH OF MALAYA, ON JULY 1.

    SAID THE SILVER-HAIRED RAIN SPECIALIST FROM AUSTRALIA, MR. SMITH: "IT IS NOW A MATTER OF WAITING FOR SUITABLE CLOUDS TO APPEAR. AS SOON AS THEY ARE SIGHTED BY THE METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT, WE WILL FLY OUT TO SEED THEM."
    THE PLANE, MADE AVAILABLE BY THE AIR FORCE ITS BOMBER SQUADRON IS FITTED WIT TWO IDENTICAL SMOKE GENERATORS UNDER ONE WING.

    THE PLANE WILL BE PILOTED BY FLIGHT-LIEUTENANT DENNIS CARTER. THE REST OF THE CREW MEMBERS COMPRISE FLYING OFFICERS ROBERT HART (SECOND IN COMMAND), DON CHESTER (NAVIGATOR) AND FLIGHT LIEUTENANT BILL HANSON (SIGNALLER).

    THE SPECIALIST SAID HE AND HIS CREW WOULD FLY AROUND FIFTEEN THOUSAND FEET LOOKING FOR THE CLOUDS.

    RAIN IS EXPECTED TO FALL WITHIN HALF AN HOUR OF SEEDING AND WILL PROBABLY LAST ONE AND A HALF HOURS.
