    ABOUT 3,000 WORKERS AND STUDENTS MARCHED ON THE ITALIAN PARLIAMENT IN ROME TODAY (THURSDAY), DURING A NATION-WIDE WAVE OF STRIKES FOR HIGHER PENSIONS. THE WORKERS WERE JOINED IN THEIR DEMONSTRATION BY A GROUP OF STUDENTS, WHO ARE SEEKING UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION REFORMS.

    THE WORKERS MASSED AT A ROME SQUARE WHERE THEY HEARD SPEECHES FROM WORKER'S REPRESENTATIVES, AND LATER, STUDENT LEADERS. SIGNOR AGOSTINO MARIANETTI, SECRETARY OF THE ITALIAN WORKER'S FEDERATION, ADDRESSED THE CROWD IN ANTI-GOVERNMENT TERMS.

    THE ROME DEMONSTRATION COINCIDED WITH A "STRUGGLE DAY" THROUGHOUT ITALY PROCLAIMED BY THE POWERFUL COMMUNIST-DOMINATED C.G.I.L LABOUR FEDERATION. THE STRUGGLE DAY BEGAN AT DAWN, WITH STRIKES BY BUS DRIVERS, PRINTERS, STEEL WORKERS AND OTHER UNIONISTS.

    IN THE ROME DEMONSTRATIONS MARCHERS CHANTING ANTI-GOVERNMENT SLOGANS WALKED THROUGH THE STREETS OF THE CITY TO THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING. THERE THEY WERE ADDRESSED AGAIN AND ENCOURAGED TO PRESS PARLIAMENT INTO APPROVING BILLS ON PENSIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REFORMS.

    PARLIAMENT WILL DISSOLVE NEXT WEEK FOR ELECTIONS EXPECTED IN MID-DAY.
