Egypt's new First Deputy Premier, Dr. Abdel Aziz Hegazi, said in Cairo on Wednesday (May 8) that Egypt and the Arabs were not war mongers and they wanted peace in the Middle East.
Dr. Hegazi, who many believe is carrying out the role of acting Prime Minister, said in an exclusive interview with Visnews correspondent Paul Davies that although the composition of the new Israeli Government was an internal matter he hoped they would want peace.
Dr. Hegazi is an economist who has been given the difficult task of restoring Egypt's economy, strained by the wars against Israel. He has been the exponent of President Sadat's policy of attracting foreign funds for investment in Egypt, easing the rigid import and export regulations and providing facilities for individual enterprises.
Dr. Hegazi a deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy in the previous administration occupies what has always been the Prime Minister's office - even though President Sadat still holds the title.
