    Mr. Iyad was also asked what the major items were on the agenda for the forthcoming Palestine National Council meeting in Damascus. He said they were mainly political issues, dealing with the events since the Camp David accords. Asked how he explained the anti-Israeli slogans in Iran, Mr. Iyad said the events in Iran were a repercussion had natural and would be echoed in countries in the area which had what he called similar regimes, like Sudan and Egypt.

    Background: A leader of the Palestinian guerrilla movement, Fatah has been quoted in the French newspaper, Le Monde as saying that if a Palestinian state was formed, Fatah would end all hostile acts against Israel. Abu Iyad who is one of the closest aides to PLO leader, Yasser Arafat was quoted by Le Monde from his book, "Palestinian Without A Country", which is due to be published in Paris soon. In Beirut, Abu Iyad was interviewed by Visnews' Anthony Steward and asked about the political and military outlook for the PLO this year?
    SYNOPSIS: Mr. Abu Iyad said the PLO faced many challenges in the coming year, mainly political.

    Mr. Iyad was asked what the situation will be in south Lebanon after the withdrawal of the French UNIFIL (UN peacekeeping force) contingent late this month?
    Mr. Iyad said the situation will be, and is, dangerous and there is the possibility of an Israeli invasion after the French withdrawal.
