    Background: United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger met with his Japanese counterpart Foreign Minister Kiichi Miyazawa in Tokyo on Sunday (19th October) on route to Peking where he will discuss details of President Ford's planned visit later year with Chinese leaders.

    The Tokyo breakfast meeting between the two foreign affairs leaders was seen by japanese observers as a diplomatic gesture towards the Japanese government. Japanese leaders were upset by the 1971 'Nixon Shokku' caused by former president Richard Nixon's ??? first visit to the People's Republic of China.

    The major topic of conversation between Dr Kissinger and Dr Miyazawa was believed to be to the korean question-the maintenance of peace on the korean Peninsula and the possibility of United Nations admission for south Korea.

    While in Peking Dr Kissinger will plan President Ford's visit, and discuss expanded and deepened relations between the U.S. and China.
