    Competing with the major Powers in the field of armed rockets, Japanese technicians launched Japan's first missiles on June 2nd. A single and a double stage rockets were fired.

    The smaller, the single stage, weapon was 13 ft. long and almost 2 ft. in diameter. Initially for use as field piece, this rocket is powered by liquid fuel and has a range of about 1,300 yards.

    Rocket two was capable of developing supersonic speeds. It had a diameter of about 2 1/2 ft., was 15 ft. long and powered by a smokeless, powdered fuel. At present its greatest range is 2,700 yards.

    Both rockets, built by the Japanese Defence Forces, were fired near the foot of Mt. Fuji, west of Tokyo. The larger model cost about GBP9,000 and the smaller in the region of GBP6,000.
