Background: The traditional Beijing carved ??? than 1,000 years ago during the Tang dynasty ??? max in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Carved lacquer works from Beijing won a gold medal at the Panamanian International Arts and Crafts Competition held in 1913.
Carved lacquer ware involved a complicated manufacturing process, including mould-casting, enamel-coating, lacquer-coating, design-tracing, carving and polishing. the basic materials are lacquer, which comes from the varnish tree, and copper and wood, which are used for making the base. Usually scores of layers, even 200 layers of ??? are applied on to the base. Most of Beijing carved lacquer works appear in red, with black, yellow or green used in the background only to sharpen the floral patterns.
The carved patterns usually go in the forms of landscape, flowers animals and human figures.
