    THE RACE WAS -- AS USUAL -- PRECEDED BY FEVERISH PREPARATIONS ON THE BANK OF THE THAMES ABOVE PUTNEY BRIDGE. ITS' THE THIRD THAMES TIDEWAY RACE RUN FOR THE GOLDEN TRITON TROPHY -- A CUP PRESENTED TO THE OVERALL WINNER BY A LONDON EVENING NEWSPAPER. THE RACE IS A HANDICAP AND THE FACTOR IS CALCULATED FROM THE OBSERVED "AVERAGE" PERFORMANCE IN EACH CLASS. THE OVERALL WINNER IS THE HELMSMAN WHOSE TOTAL TIME SHOWS THE GREATEST PERCENTAGE IMPROVEMENT OVER THE AVERAGE FOR HIS CLASS.
